VW Volkswagen is reportedly investing in Solid-State Batteries

New development in Solid State Batteries

Its been a quite few years we have been hearing about development on Solid-State batteries. Solid State batteries are said to be next generation energy storage. However, we haven’t yet seen them on a mass production scale.

Now Volkswagen becomes the latest automaker who is investing in Solid-State batteries. Automaker is investing $100 million dollars on a startup (QuantumScape) that is expected to bring Solid-State batteries tech into the market.

According to VW:

We want to accelerate the commercialization of QuantumScape’s solid-state batteries. And we combine forces to leverage Volkswagen’s experience as a production specialist and QuantumScape technology leadership. Volkswagen is thus taking another step toward a sustainable, zero emission mobility for our customers in the future.

TechSpirit’s Comments:

It looks like lagecy automakers like Volkswagen are taking electric cars very seriously and therefore VW sees new battery technology as competitive advantage against other automakers. Lets see how Solid-State battery development goes and how long does it take for them to bring this tech into market.

If they are able to bring new tech in the market they maybe able to compete with Tesla. However, by the time they come with new technology Tesla would be introducing new technology a lot earlier as Tesla is well ahead when it comes to electric cars.
